A common mistake here is to simply take the average of 60% and 40% and incorrectly reach the solution 50%. Since there are two tests in which Harry scores 60%, we take a weighted average, wherein we add 60+60+40 and divide by 3. (d)

(200 × 13 + 700×15 + 100 × 17) / 1000
= 14.8
Q3  (1) is not sufficient since (x - y) is the quantity desired. Likewise, (2) is not sufficient. But (1) and (2) together provide us with 2 equations and two unknowns from which x - y can be determined. The correct response is C. (We may solve the problem by subtracting (2) from (1): 3y = 6, therefore y = 2 and x = 6, so that x - y = 6 - 2 = 4. This calculation is, however, unnecessary.)

Q4 Explanation: The mixture yields a 33.33% profit when sold at $20. Hence its purchase price to the trader was $20/1.33 = $15. This implies that the weighted average purchase price of the two kinds of wheat grains is $ 15. We have 50 sacks of the expensive wheat. Assume that we have n sacks of the cheaper wheat. Hence,
